September 2023 Treasure Hunt

Heal + Create is having their second fall A Writing Room Retreat September 22-24! This year’s is called The Writing I attended last year and enjoyed it immensely. I left with genuinely valuable notes, which doesn’t always happen. The Retreat is both in person in Santa Fe, NM, and virtual. (This is often a hard combo to pull off, making it hard on the virtual attendees, but I thought Jacob Nordby’s group did a stellar job last year.)

Brooke Warner is offering a new Show Up and Write series for accountability from September 2023 to February 2024. The cost is $99 for the entire series, no matter when you sign up.

Silk and Sonder has posted its September Socials on Eventbrite.

Lauren Sapala is hosting her Silent Writing Sessions again this month. These can, of course, be used for anything! Some folks use for writing or other creative pursuits, but some do tasks they have to get done or have been procrastinating on.

Every month (twice each month), Eventbrite offers a FREE Virtual Writing Hour with the National Portrait Gallery event. This month’s sessions are on the 19th and 26th.

World Virtual Tours has free online walks through wonderful cities.

I have found the What is a Personal Legend at MasterMindMatrix.com to be a valuable exercise. I printed it out and have been reading and journaling through it.

Books out this month:

Books that aren’t newly released, but that I enjoyed reading this month:

Have I mentioned Thrift Books’ website here yet? I’m addicted. A lot of $2.00 books and other special discounts abound! I keep a list in my phone. I’ve found things that have been otherwise impossible to find.

A lot of Joshua Sprague’s latest book, Create First, Consume Second, is directed to people producing mass or social media content for passive income, BUT the principle and practice is something I’m trying. A 21-Day Create First Challenge with a writing buddy. I waited for an Amazon Kindle sale to purchase for 99 cents and it was worth every penny. I kid, of course. I admire his consistency and dedication. I purchased his 30-Day Book Writing Challenge a few years back and actually stuck with it for about 12 days until it got hard. : )

Hulu and I are in an abusive relationship again. I’ve watched too many things on the streamer that have caused it to bombard me with more. You know, wink at the bad egg and stalking can’t be too far off. So, like drinking water from a fire hose, I’ve rewatched things like The Full Monty, Bored to Death, Vice Principals, The Shield, No Country for Old Men (which I didn’t know was filmed in my beloved Las Vegas, NM where I sat in a car and cried because I knew I could never recreate a home and barn on a waving field on the Loneliest Highway (104) between LV and Tucamcari)…the list apparently will never end. And I think I’m about to sign up for a BritBox trial and month or two so I can watch Mum and As Time Goes By and Miranda again!

Quotes

“A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And as he adapts his mind to hat regulating factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his condition, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts, ceases to kick against circumstances, but begins to USE them as aids to his more rapid progress, and as a means of discovering the hidden powers and possibilities within himself." ~ from James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh

”Clean thoughts make clean habits.” ~ from James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh

”To live continually in thoughts of ill will, cynicism, suspicion, and envy is to be confined in a self-made prison hole.” ~ from James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh

My Christmas present feeling this month was buying Scrivener (lots of info and videos, but I found this one from Creative Penn the seller) and setting up a character template and actually moving some stuff from my HUGE Scratch Pad into the corkboard. It’s just been fun.
