June 2023 Treasure Hunt
Silk and Sonder has posted its June Socials on Eventbrite.
Lauren Sapala is hosting her Silent Writing Sessions again this month. These can, of course, be used for anything! Some folks use for writing or other creative pursuits, but some do tasks they have to get done or have been procrastinating on.
Five Things I’ve Learned classes, as always.
The Writer’s Digest University’s Second Annual Humor Writing Virtual Conference is on June 24th. $129, but some really good speakers this year.
Books out this month: Nicole Baart’s The Long Way Back. (Her Little Broken Things sold me.)
Jeannette Walls Hang the Moon (released at the end of March, but on hold for most library patrons until this month, so I’m listing it now, since I’ve just read it. The Glass Castle is in my top 10 of all books I’ve read in this lifetime. Same for April’s release of Daniel Wallace’s This Isn’t Going to End Well. (I sent a fan letter to him over his Extraordinary Adventures.)
Books that aren’t newly released, but I enjoyed reading this month are: The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman (the 3rd in the Thursday Murder Club Mystery), Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis, and Salvage this World by Michael Farris Smith, a favorite author who is a regular at my beloved Eudora Welty Symposium at the Mississippi University for Women. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
I ordered a new favorite, Blueberry Cashew Butter, from Abby’s Better. Her story is a sweet one and her butters really are BETTER. :)
I love the Meyer Lemon and the Vine-Ripened Raspberry Balsamic Vinegars at Olivelle. I use them in 100 ways, but one of my favorites is drizzling the Meyer Lemon and sprinkling Gourmet Garden basil (what I find in the produce section at Safeway and call my “fridge basil”) over a sliced roma tomato and shredded mozzarella.
The body oils at Plum Island Soap Company. (Anything citrusy are my favorites.) Just ordering from them makes me feel like I was On Cape for a minute.
Quotes
“Hope is one of the principal springs that keep mankind in motion.” ~ Thomas Fuller
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” ~ the character, Socrates, in Dan Millman’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior.
“Bravery is being the only one who knows you're afraid.” ~ Franklin P. Jones, Columnist for the Saturday Evening Post
My Christmas present feeling this month was looking at pictures of the AirBnb house in Covington, TN, that I loved so much and thought I could actually have. Then, doing a Google Map search and seeing my car in the canopy carport.
