January 2023 Treasure Hunt

Susannah Conway’s Unravel Your Year is my favorite thing to do at the end of/beginning of each year. You can get it here! She also wrote a lovely book about grief called This I Know: Notes on Unraveling the Heart that started it all, I think.

I heard Katrina Kittle speak at 2022’s Erma Bombeck Writing Workshop and loved her so much I’ve been stalking her for workshops/events/classes. She and Susan Pohlman of the Phoenix Writers Network are hosting a workshop on January 19th.

Julia Cameron’s new book, Write for Life, comes out January 19th. I don’t know yet if it will be anything new, but I hope so. It’s on pre-order.

Jennifer Louden of Oasis fame (I don’t think she’s hosting The Oasis anymore) is offering a free 3 Hidden Reasons You Get Stuck Writing webinar on January 17th.

I love getting my monthly Silk and Sonder workbooks in the physical mail each month. Each month has a theme, and it’s not the usual yea, November is gratitude ho hum, but rather, a nice surprise. The price just went up to $63.50 each quarter (first increase since the business started )., but you also have full access to a free app with Daily lessons, affirmations, all the things. It really has helped me with weekly/monthly goals vs. intentions vs. tasks vs. do-nothing time. There’s a review process each week where you identify your Rose, your Bud, and your Thorn, also helpful in knowing as you go through each month. There are monthly free Eventbrite events around the setup. I always attend a Monthly, but that’s usually it. (Some of the hostesses (can we still say that) are very young and do the upspeak, which is like fingernails on chalkboard for me.)

I purchased the Hallow app. Jonathon Roumie, the actor who plays Jesus in The Chosen, had an Instagram post about how he loved the Advent music for the Christmas season, and it was like Jesus said “Follow Me”, and I really had no control. I’m not a fundamental or devout Christian, in fact I’ve always thought of myself in a brought-up-Methodist-but-not-practicing spirit. But I LOVE reading about religions and almost majored in Religion in another life, so I am really enjoying it. They have a Bible in a Year series that I’m particular loving. (Add to that a new find about the Rosary - and I’m not remotely Catholic. It’s fascinating.)

Tony Robbins is holding a free event from January 24 - 28 called the Become Unshakeable Challenge.

On Saturday, January 28, with Sharla Jacobs, co-founder of Thrive Academy, is hosting a free webinar about discovering how to heal resistance to selling—and experience a powerful new energy that can help you feel as if spirit is flowing through you when you connect with potential clients. Register here.

St. Thomas Beckett said: Whosoever wisely examines the works of God will speedily discover what is next to be done.

I’ve also picked up my again in hopes of reading a bit in The Bhagavad Gita each day. It’s all a 2023 vibe of exploring, experimenting, and learning.

I am FINALLY (she published in 1994, so I’m just a tad late) reading Jan Karon’s At Home in Mitford, and it’s the sweetest thing I’ve read in a long, long time. Apparently, there are 14 books in the Mitford series and I hope to live long enough to read all of them.

Lauren Sapala hosts a monthly series of Silent Writing Sessions, for everyone but especially for INFJ types who don’t need/want the fluff.

My Christmas present feeling for this month was unraveling and finding my word for 2023. Also, I finally sent an email to an old friend about buying a house in a town far away. It’s such angst sometimes, but there’s instant relief when you push that last button to voice your need/want. And there was a third: just working on this site.
